The Basics

Laos is the only landlocked nation in Southeast Asia, bordered by Myanmar and Thailand to the West, China to the North, Vietnam to the East and Cambodia to the South. That is not to say Laos is not a diverse region, with a varying topography of mountainous regions and lowlands with a typically tropical season of wet and dry periods.
Laos is still a very agriculture driven country, with agriculture accounting for about 50% of the country’s GDP. Aside from agriculture, Laos also relies heavily on trade with the countries surrounding it. Tourism is so quickly becoming a large contributor to the yearly GNP, with one out of every ten jobs relating to tourism. |
