Na Sao
completed (September 2014)

Background...

Approximately 12km to the west of Luang Prabang sits the village of Ban Na Sao. Set amongst a backdrop of mountains and jungle the village is a small, close nit community. As one of the developing communities in the district the need for basic infrastructural development is great. As one of the larger villages we work with, the village is home to 84 families with a total population of 419.

The village currently has an inadequate water system and our intention is to renovate and repair it to improve the quantity and quality of the water being dispensed to the village. We feel the village would benefit hugely from our work to increase the accessibility for locals to clean and safe running water.

The Project:
To renovate and repair the current water system that currently supplies an insufficient volume of water.

Na Sao is located on the outskirts of Luang Prabang. The current water system, known locally as Nam Lin, has become degraded and inefficient. It currently dispenses unsafe and dirty water that is not fit for consumption, cleaning or washing. Thus, Volun-Tour Laos sees an opportunity to renovate the current running water system with a view of greatly improving the safety, cleanliness and quantity of the water supply.
We also see this as a great chance to educate villagers on the maintenance of the pipeline and to run workshops on how to manage the system effectively. By doing this we justify the project by highlighting the potential longevity of the new system. In essence, by educating the locals and updating the facility we see the potential for the villagers to take care of the water system for the long-term.

A warm welcome from the community.

With the project completed, the new tank has the capacity to supply safe, clean and sufficient volumes of water for the community all year round. Whilst previously, the system would fail during dry season, now it will be dependable. The new pipes have the strength and robustness to work and supply water for many years to come.
