Nong Sai
(completed: March 2013)

Background and completed project outline...

Along the Mekong River sits Nong Sai village about 30 kilometres from the Luangprabang city centre. During monsoon season it may be that teams will need to travel by boat down the Mekong River to the village as the roads are not passible at that time of year. This small secluded village is trying to hold onto its appeal and looking to keep the fundamentals within its own village.

Instead of facing relocation of the 40 plus households Lao Project Group and the Luangprabang District of Education will help build a 2 classroom primary school for this community. Construction of the school is made possible by the generous funding of our friends at Village Run Foundation and through the World Challenge expedition student volunteer teams that will be visiting and staying with the community. The construction of the school will serve up to 40 plus young school kids’ ages 5 to 10 from the surrounding Nong Sai village area that would have also had to relocate. Locals from the Nong Sai village and surrounding area will help construct this primary school. It will eventually serve as the foundation of an educational learning centre for this area. This project will greatly enhance the lives of those living in these communities.
