Background

We are based in Luang Prabang, Laos with our main focus being to support rural communities in the surrounding region. We have also been working with several communities down in southern Laos, in the area surrounding Pakse.

Operating with a small staff base of predominantly Lao nationals. We work together to plan, manage and follow up on project work that is aimed to provide interesting and fulfilling volunteer programs, as well as valuable, responsible and sustainable project work.

The goal of our work is to promote sustainable development through our project work.

What is more, we encourage local communities to help themselves; we refrain from simply giving handouts to communities. As an organisation we may fund a project, but we place substantial responsibility on the communities we invest in to bring the project to its fruition.
Our volunteers and donors are of course fundamental to helping us achieve our goals.

We want them to understand and appreciate the bigger picture that goes with our development work. Rather than place all the onus on our volunteers to do the work we look to the local villagers. Our volunteers assist rather than lead the locals through the project process.

Through this, communities gain a sense of ownership and a sense of accomplishment. For example, it is because of their hard work that they have been able to open a new schoolhouse, or put together an improved sanitation system.
Picture
It is looking to the long-term, we don't want villages dependent on our volunteers. We want our volunteers assisting, learning and engaging with the locals- and vice versa- to work in unison on the project.
